Who we are

Digital Spark is a small UK firm based in Hampshire, with decades of combined experience across enterprise IT, software engineering, data platforms, and modern cloud stacks. We work primarily with UK SMEs and mid-market businesses, and every customer is supported from the UK.

We're deliberately small. Small firms move faster, talk to their customers directly, and skip the layers that slow large agencies down. The historical trade-off — that working with a small firm makes you dependent on a small firm — is something we've engineered out, using AI.

Engineered, not improvised.

When we say a system is engineered, we mean it was thought through — not assembled from whatever was nearest to hand. That sounds obvious. In this industry it often isn't. Too many systems are improvised: a quick fix here, a workaround there, decisions made by deadline rather than by design. They work, but they accumulate fragility. The people who built them move on. The people who inherit them are afraid to touch them.

We try to work the other way round. Every decision gets a reason. Every choice gets written down as it's made. Every system we hand over comes with the thinking behind it — so the next engineer, yours or ours or someone else's, can pick it up and continue without us in the room.

We're not perfect. We make mistakes, change our minds, and learn from the work in front of us. What we promise is that the work is considered. That when something does go wrong, we can tell you why. And that the version you receive is the one we'd want to inherit.

How AI changes what working with us looks like

The honest concern about choosing a small partner has always been: what happens if they're not there? Larger firms answer this with team depth. We answer it with how the work is delivered.

AI lets us produce work that is inherently portable. Every codebase we ship comes with thorough documentation generated alongside it. Every architectural decision is captured in plain markdown that any other engineer can read. Every process we use repeatedly becomes a written playbook. The output you receive is something a successor — an in-house developer, a different firm, your own team — could pick up and continue without us in the room.

This is a real shift from how most consultancies have historically worked, where the knowledge stayed in the heads of the people who did the work. With AI assistance, that's no longer the trade-off. Documentation isn't an afterthought — it's a side-effect of how the work gets done. Your knowledge stays with you, not with us.

Transparent by default

We use AI openly. Customers see where it's applied, what it produces, and where a human reviews the output. We don't pretend a piece of work is artisan-crafted when it was AI-assisted, and we don't hide behind AI when judgement is required. AI for production volume, humans for judgement and quality control — that combination is what lets a small firm deliver at enterprise scope without the enterprise price tag.

Alongside the products we take on selective consulting engagements where the work is genuinely interesting or where it complements what we build. We focus where we're sharpest, and we say no where we'd be average.
